We started the year looking forward to seasonal camping at Wild Acres as we have for over the past 12 years. This year, however, was quite different. This year we were approached with a new concept and change of policy for the fairly recent owners Morgan RV Resorts. We were informed that we could loose our campsites where our Park Model trailers were located on to a person who is part of their new Membership program. To avoid this relocation problem, we could Lock"in " our location by joining the membership program for $11,600 cash or $13,000 financed. If we did not act fast, the fee would be $16,000 within a few weeks. To say the least, this was a huge dissapointment in the new season. Since that meeting, the main focus of camping every weekend became based on a decision we "had" to make. It totally ruined our Family camping at Wild Acres. The Morgan RV Resorts has repeated this approach to the many campgrounds they own in the State as well as many throughout the country. They have forced consumers to pay up or be forced to move. The sales approach is high pressure sales as seen in time share condo tactics. I sold my camper at a reduced price and said goodbye. I am saddened by the many friends we have left in our community formed while being there.
Morgan RV Resorts has been brought forward by the State of Massachusetts to answer charges relating to the tactics mentioned. How long will it take for the State of Maine to follow suit? I would suggest the Town of Old Orchard would also seek the truth in the treatment of their summer residents.
