Consumer Report

I received an email on 4 Sept. From "[email protected]" with the subject line "Your Order Was Approved" and saying that my "monthly recurring order of Resveratrol" had been approved and would be shipped within the next 24 hours. I replied within a few hours of that email arriving, to say that I had not placed any such order and that any charge to my credit card had been made without my authority. I requested a refund of the amount concerned and said that any supposed authority to make further charges was cancelled. I said that, if they did not do this forthwith, I would take the matter up with both State and Federal authorities (I thought they were based in the States) with a view to their prosecution for fraud.

Their original message said that my card had been billed by "PUNITRONHELP.com". It quoted the card number's last 4 digits and its expiry date. They had my email address correct, but quoted my postal address as one that I left 12 months ago.

I have had two further emails from them: the first was produced automatically, within seconds of my email, and made little sense. It offered details of my "ticket" and said that an "agent" would "get back to me as soon as possible." The second, sent 10 minutes later, "regretted to inform me that the charge was automatically refunded by the system" and that, as a result, my "membership" was "now inactive and canceled (sic)". It went on to assure me that "the money" would be back in my "account within the next 7 to 10 business days" - which seems unlikely.

On the question of how they got hold of my email address, my credit card details and my (out of date) residential address, I suspect that "Life Healthcare, Jersey" (Channel Islands) may have something to do with it. They earn dishonourable mentions on a website similar to this (just Google them), and (without knowing that) I recently ordered some stuff from them - which arrived, eventually, and is performing satisfactorily. But "Resveratrol" features in one of their products - which seems a bit of a coincidence...

I look forward to hearing more about Punitron.

BTW - Scambook has a header showing how much in the way of "damages" has been clocked up so far (i. E, I assume, losses reported by members of the Scambook site). There is no mention, however, of how much has been recovered: does anybody know?
