I work for a local Child Care Center. As an employee I am a Mandated reported. Meaning when a child comes to us as teacher and say's "my parent beats me and does not feed me", I am required to take this information to my managment team.
I have done so twice in my employment with said company.
Twice CPS / DSHS gave my personal information and my account of the situation or event that I took to management.
I was never wrong, the Parent wants me fired (for doing my job - and following Washington State Law). Said parent and another staff member continualy discuss this matter. Which 1. The other employee had nothing to do with this event until the parent brought it to their attention. My managment should have taken care of this issue and employee the first time I brought to their attention. This employee and parent still discuss event to present date. 2. This is retalition and the company I work for should protect me. They do not share my concern.
I was told this week, by my supervisor that one of said children is returning to our care and the "Parent" is concered that I am still with the company and I "may" ask how her daughter is doing. Wow really -
CPS/DSHS are not allowed to give out a Mandated Reporters information and or account of events that transpired.
CPS/DSHS have but me in a very harmful situation. Gossip daily about this issue. I can not walk away or quit as I have a life and family to feed as well.
CPS/DSHS Require the Mandated Reporter to do so - but offer no protection, help nothing!
My employer is not protecting me. Who is protecting the children if we as Mandated Reporters are punished for doing what is required by law?
The children are being ripped off!
