I was going through a mortgage refinance with Ryan Klaic (he worked for Forum Mortgage in Chicago). I agreed to a 15 year, 4.0 loan refinance with no closing costs. About a week before I was supposed to close, Ryan called me and said there was a new government regulation that required my debt/asset ratio to be below 45%. After over a week of discussion he called me to say he had a solution. He could refinance me to a 20 year fixed at 4.375 with no closing costs. I told him I would think about it. I talked to him a few days later and asked him to clarify there were no closing costs and no costs rolled into my existing loan. I have an email where he verifies this information.
At the closing, he was not present. Ryan claimed to be stuck in Madison, WI with car trouble. The man who went through all the paperwork with me was Mr. Vasilopoulos. Mr. Vasilopoulos told me he would send me the check for the closing costs the next day. Both Ryan and Mr. Vasilopoulos told me of certain legal issues that required the costs to be on the loan and for them to reimburse me after the closing.
When I did not receive the check, I contacted Ryan. After many emails and phone calls he called me on August 9 and said he no longer worked for Forum Mortgage. He also told me they would not be reimbursing me because their "legal counsil" advised them that reimbursement was illegal. I knew he had scammed me at this point. Ryan told me he would make good on the deal and would send me a check for the amount of the closing costs which totaled $1149.75. He told me he would send the check on August 10th. As of August 13th, I have not received the check and he will not return my calls.
