Steve Montgomery of Interval Rentals and Resales called me in May and told me about his company having a waiting list of people who wanted to rent timeshares at either the Vino Bello Resort in Napa, CA or the Donatello in San Francisco, CA during Labor Day week this year. He made this sound like a good opportunity for me to make some extra money by renting out my unused Shell Vacations Club points. He told me the fee would be $398. I gave him my Visa debit card information and he then instructed me to make three reservations—a one-week reservation at the Vino Bello starting on Sept. 4 and two reservations at the Donatello—one for three nights and the other for four nights for the same week. I called Mr. Montgomery after I did this and told him it had been done. After that I did not get any calls from him for at least two weeks. I started leaving messages at his phone number because he was not answering. I left one particularly nasty message because I was very angry that he was not calling me back. After he got this message, he finally called me and left a message on my cell phone saying that he had been river rafting and had injured his leg or something. He stated that he did not know why I went ballistic in my message and asked me to call him. However, when I called him, he still did not pick up the phone. I realized by then that he was a scammer and had no intention of paying me for the rentals.
