I recently entered into agreement with Authorhouse to self-publish my book. Upon entering the agreement and accepting my money the company was polite, but after paying for the services the companies representatives became more and more rude. I agreed to sign up with Authorhouse as of 01/28. I gave the company a manuscript along with a finished book cover and all they needed to do was format the work. It took them over 4 months to complete a galley for me to proof, so in a rush to meet my deadline I approved the galley without verifying any errors. After receiving notification from a magazine on the number of errors that were in the book I had the book recalled off the shelves and they never pulled all of the books. I took responsibility for not proofing the book the first time, so I went ahead and paid the fee for resubmission which is $500. It took 30 days to get another galley proof back from them, which I was supposed to have in 15 days. I found a few more minor grammatical errors when they sent me the proof, and now they want to charge me more money. I have already lost thousands of dollars on events that were advertised for book signings that I had to cancel due to not having any books. I have also lost money on flights books that I had to make trips for no purpose because I could not be refunded. I refused to pay this predator book publisher any more money for services. They prey on first time authors who are interested in self-publishing and they need to be stopped. They don't even pay royalties until 60 days after the fiscal quarter is over. I have yet to know how many books have been sold, because the authors have no access to what is being sold by outside distributors. This company had to be stopped!!!
