On April 6 my husband and I purchased a shed from Superior Buildings of Lake County at 2520Hwy. 441/27 Suite 2, Fruitland Park, Florida. We ordered a 12x24 with a larger door in the front, a window on each side of the door, and one window in the back of the shed, mainly for cross ventilation (and it looks better that way). The total price of the shed was $3852.00 at which point Mr. Tom Johnston requested $1500 as a down payment. We wrote him a check (#2283) for that amount and he said the shed would be here on the following Friday. Well Friday came and went and Mr. Johnston did not call and of course the shed did not come. That following Monday I called Mr. Johnston and he said the folks that make the sheds are behind because they have sold so many sheds. Well this went on for five (5) weeks with Mr. Johnston saying it will be here every following Friday. This man never called us to tell us this, we always had to call him, but mostly we personally went to his business. On May 5 which was a Thursday, I again went down to find out where the shed was and he said tomorrow which was Friday. Of course I did not hear from him by 11am so I went there, again and he said it will be here today. Amazingly around 1pm here comes our shed and the driver got out of the truck and I said to him (with several witnesses) that was not the shed we ordered he needed to take it back. It had the windows on each end not each window on each side of the door. I called Mr. Johnston and told him that the shed was not what we ordered and he asked why and I told him about the windows. His statement was; “I remember now due to the cross ventilation.” Mr. Johnston said, “do not worry I will have a man there next Friday (I guess this was his favorite day) to put 2 windows in.” I responded by saying that I will hold the rest of the money, $2352.00 until I get what we ordered, and his response was, “oh no you cannot, I have already paid for the shed.” I was very skeptical at this point and I said that I am not comfortable with this and he said “ma’am I have been in business 16 years and I am a man of my word.” Now it has been almost 2 months ago. On June 21 I went back to his business and asked why my windows were not completed yet. Unbelievably he said we ordered the shed as it is (I have no proof other than myself and my husband telling him what we wanted. We do have several witnesses that heard me call him and told him it was not the right shed and that I should hold the balance of the shed or return the shed until I get what I ordered. Then he persisted to tell me he is broke and has no money to put the windows in. We have not received the windows as of August 21.
We are so tired of being taken advantage of by supposedly businesses. As you know we paid a lot of money for this shed and we should get it the way we want (actually no matter what we pay for it). When I look out my kitchen window and see this shed, it makes me sick to my stomach. It is so ugly I can barely stand looking at it.
I am hoping that somehow you would be able to help us resolve this issue so that no one will have to go through what we have gone through and get what we ordered.
