On or about January 27, Glenn Glass contacted me regarding some possible investment activity that would be beneficial to us both. On February 5, we drafted a promissory note for three thousand dollars which was to go up to ten thousand dollars. He and Jeanette, his wife, signed the note and he faxed me a copy back on February 9. He never sent me the hard copy as I requested. I was transferring to money to him via Bank of America. (Feb 4, $1000.00; Feb 8, $500.00; Feb 9, $500.00; Feb 12, $1000.00; April 19, $1000.00) I have accounts there and so did Jeanette, so I was transferring directly into her account. On or about March 15, Glenn made the first payment to me of $300.00. This inured my confidence in him and I thought we were on a roll. Still not having all the details of the transaction, I figured the promissory note covers the money, Id let him worry about the details. April, May, June rolled by, and he paid nothing. And I had sent him another thousand dollars in April bringing my total with him to four thousand dollars.
Subsequently, I found out the details of what he was doing from bits and pieces he told me and talking to friends of mine here who are car dealers. The scenario went like this: He would find someone in trouble with their car, about to be repossessed, give them two or three thousand dollars, take the car to an auto repair facility he was in cahoots with and have them issue a mechanics lien, which was sent to the lien holder; they would in turn send him the title and he would sell the car at auction. No real mechanical work was actually done on the car, the mechanics lien was fake.
