Two weeks ago I purchased a bag of dog food that Tropic Waters had put on sale. Since it was the same kind of food I fed my dogs, only about 8 dollars cheaper I decided to pick up a bag. That night I fed my dogs from the new bag of food and a few hours later one of my dogs began vomiting and having uncontrolled diarrhea.By the morning, my other dog had the same problem. Both of them were very lethargic and would not eat or drink for about 2 days (even if they did try to eat or drink, they would vomit it up). Because I had not fed them any treats or given them any chew bones for at least a couple days before I gave them food from the new bag I immediately suspected the food. I dumped the food out of its bag and found the bag to be infested with mold and moths (most dead but some alive). Upon further investigation I found that the bag had expired in July (which was 7 months ago!). My dogs had to be put on a special (very expensive) diet for two weeks after the mold poisoning and had I not noticed to mold and moths at the time I did, my dogs could have died. I immediately returned the bag. Before I did however, I went to Tropic Waters and looked at all of the dog food that was on sale and noticed that each and every bag that was on sale was at least 6 months expired. There was no sign or anything telling customers that the reason the food was on sale was because it was expired. I looked a little closer and noticed that many of the bags had moths sitting on them and small holes were eaten away in some of the bags. I expressed my concern to the store owner and he pretty much told me "too bad, you should have checked the expiration date." I guess I didn't think that the store would sell me food that had expired 7 months prior to the date it was sold so I didn't really check the expiration dates on my dog's food in the past... Isn't it the store's responsibility to do quality control? Tropic Waters Pet Center is clearly only concerned with making a buck if they are willing to put their customer's pets at risk by selling expired pet food at a discounted price without telling customers why the food is on sale!
