Goodwill Industries
The Power of Poverty

When I used to work there, they had these big banners everywhere which read "The Power of Work!" We all used to call it "The Power of Poverty"!

Have you ever asked yourself - "So just WERE DOES all off Goodwill's money go"?"Who are they helping again"?..

It's a very good question, isn't it?

They help people find work, right? Not just people who are disabled - exactly, but poor people.in other words, they employ people who are having trouble finding a job. You know, the same way that McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, etc. Does. The biggest difference is, they make it sound like they are doing a great service to society by employing "the unemployable" (poor people). As a reward, they are free from paying taxes, paying employees, or paying anything else.

Wait, it get better... Much better.

The MASSIVE AMOUNTS of money that "the Wal-Mart of thrift stores" is raking in every year, (we're talking about MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of dollars EVERY YEAR) goes to help those poor, unemployable people even more. They set up these little "classrooms" to help the poor find jobs. They offer internet access on donated computers, help you fill out a resume on donated paper, and even show you how to work a cash register (yea you guessed it, it was donated too). At the distribution center where I used to work, there was one of these little classrooms for the entire tri-county area.

The millions of dollars of profit that were being made every year - from our district alone - was going to run that tiny little classroom full of about 20 people. "So where did the rest of that money go"? Does anyone know? Anyone at all?

I know for a fact that those millions of tax free dollars weren't going to help the employees go anywhere. They would start you off at min. Wage - and then finish you off at min. Wage. It made no difference if you were there for 10 minutes, or ten years. Raises were not available, for anyone, period.

On top of the massive theft of millions of dollars - per year, from the poor working class and from American Tax payers, there was something else that made me just slightly nauseous. It was the horrifying amount of USABLE goods that were dumped every day. I would see a minimum of TEN INDUSTRIAL SIZED DUMPSTERS filled with mostly USABLE goods get dumped in the landfill, every-single-day. I'm not talking about the little green dumpsters that you see behind your corner store, I'm talking about the BIG DUMPSTERS that have to be pulled with a semi-truck, They are literally big enough to fit an entire house in after it has been demoed. They would price everything really high and then "mark it down" to make it look cheaper. If it was still priced too high to sell, then it would get sent back to the distribution center and tossed into the colossal sized dumpster.

Way to help those poor, dirty employees out, Goodwill! Price everything so that somebody working on min. Wage can't afford it, then if if doesn't sell for a ridiculously high price, dump it before their very eyes. Naturally, if an unsavory employee was to try and "steal" a piece of trash - or rather "discarded item", they would be terminated on the spot - no questions asked.

After seeing just how this disgusting, bigger then life, scam was being run, I still have only one question left. EXACTLY WHERE IS ALL OF THIS MONEY ENDING UP? It's an enigma, wrapped inside a mystery, surrounded in a riddle. No one knows, no one asks and nobody seems to care.
