You may be asked to play a showcase for industry professionals. Proceed with caution. Occasionally, these gigs do place you in front of media, managers, and labels, but it is unlikely, AND IF THEY DO... They are NOT LEGITIMATE Representations of the label company or we called "b"-listers!
Fully research the opportunity before you sign on.investigate if the organizer has any connections to the music industry and if he or she has done this before. Ask who has been invited to attend and the success of prior events. Check out the other artists scheduled to perform also in the showcase. Even if it appears that the showcase is legitimate, remember that there are often free paths to reach media, managers, and labels. Opportunities include industry conferences and networking functions. You can also send invitations to industry professionals to attend your gigs when you play nearby.
PLEASE REMEMBER AND UNDERSTAND... If the BIG RECORD LABELS will sign someone, THEY CAN USE the internet to find talent, they do not WASTE their time at these showcases, nor do MOST of the record labels even know these events are taking place! If you do not believe this, please contact the presidents of the record labels! They will tell you this is true!!!
