Deseptive sales practices

I received a pop-up survey request when I visited my personal bank account through Chase on-line website. The survey stated if I answered a few questions (and I did) that my "reward" would be a limited time offer for several items to chose from at the reduced price of only $1.00 plus $4.99 s/h. I chose the Geneva Watch.

The questions on the survey were all about Chase's website: How often I would logon each week? How I would rate the website? Would I consider coming back to the site? The the survey asked for my gender. It took all of about 2 minutes. This survey would come up EVERY time I visited the Chase website. It lasted for about 10 days, starting at the last week of January.

The watch arrived via UPS on Thursday February 4. The watch does not work. Either there is no battery inside, or the battery is dead. Enclosed with the watch is a mail insert, that summarizes the charges ($4.99 s/h; $1.00 fee) and provides the website address for customer service.

On Monday February 8 I check my bank account on Chase, and there is another posting of $88.99 from the same vendor (GEW*MYGENEVAWATCH877-872-9911). I never gave authorization for Geneva for deduct that amount nor did I ever sign up for anything that cost that amount.

I contacted Chase's dispute department and informed them of what had taken place. Geneva's website states that they'll give a full refund if the item is returned as per there instructions. I sent an e-mail requesting a RMA number which they need in order to process a return.

The website states that within 24 hours you'll have a answer to any questions you have regarding this product. I received a e-mail back stating it will take at least 48 hours. The post-mark on the returned package MUST be 15 days from the original mail date, and you MUST have this RMA number before you send the package back. They also recommend you use some type of confirmation mailing when you send it back.

So I was charged a total of $5.99 for a product that does not even work. Then charged an additional $88.99 that was never authorized or agreed to. Now I'll have to spend another $4.00-$6.00 shipping this watch back, for the full refund minus I'm sure the s/h.

Quite clear this company utilizes deceptive sales/marketing practices to pitch there products. Completely unfair to the consumer and in explicit violation of basic business practices. I hope the Better Business Bureau of California is made aware of this.
