I highly regret attending SCAD as I am far worse off now than before i went. I now owe more money than i can possibly pay for decades and have failed to get the jobs i was aiming for. Keep in mind i was the valedictorian nominee for my class. Despite getting near perfect grades and keeping in constant contact with the career advisement department i got the shaft after graduation and had no job.
I sold my car to pay for resumes and portfolio books and spent the last of my savings on plane tickets to LA to attend Siggraph. After schmoozing with every company i could, I received absolutely no job offers or interest.
After being out of work for over 6 months, i finally landed a job not really in my field at a company that greatly underpaid me and ended up denying me any raise at all for my entire duration there. After this disaster of a career, i desparately contacted all of my previous professors and career advisors only to be completely ignored and given a bunch of B.S. Also SCAD has the nerve to be sending me monthly requests for donations for various fundraising schemes that they so desperately need. Ha
SCAD as a school was okay. I learned what I needed to, but many of my fellow classmates were totally unprepared after graduation. I think many got into the school, just because they had the money. I have also never seen a more dispicable city in my life. Muggings, Murders, and Robberies were a daily occurence. Parking is a terrible situation. And all the school buildings are spread out throughout the hellhole city and make it very dangerous getting to and from. I even witnessed people being shot in front of me on my way back from a night class on "martin luther king" street. I'm sure he would be proud.
In conclusion, despite the fact that I learned the tools of the trade, I deeply regret attending SCAD, as it has put me and my family in a financial hole I will not soon get out of. It has also provided no real opportunity for me to establish a meaningful career or attain the dream job that I was fooled into thinking could be attained. Oh well, there's always fast food. If you're a spoiled rich kid who wants to blow through thousands of dollars and learn a hobby, then go to SCAD. If you want to land a great job and earn a decent living, think about something else. Be a doctor or lawyer like your parents told you.
