What's With the Beef?

Sunflower had a colored flyer that showed different beef roasts and under the picture of EACH roast, it stated, "Buy one, get one free". I purchased a rump roast for approximately $11 and picked up another one for about that price. I purchased a boneless chuck roast for about $8, and selected another for about that price. Yet, when the sales clerk rang up my bill, she charged me almost $23 instead of the almost $20 I was expecting. I finally realized she had charged me for both rump roasts ($11) and given the two $8 chuck roasts as the "free ones". I explained to her what she had done, but she said that's "just the way it rings up." I told her the ad not only explains in writing that if you buy a rump roast, you get a rump roast free, but the pictures shows it that way. Nowhere in the ad does it say you can mix and/or match the roast types.

I asked to see the manager, and when she appeared, I told her what I just wrote above, and tried to explain why I had been charged $2.89 too much. She picked up one of their fliers and actually read the ad information that stated, "buy one and get one of equal or lesser value free." I told her to look at each picture where it stated below each, "buy one, get one free" - that meant if you bought a specific roast, you would get another of that specific roast free. I told her that during the sale period, every time someone bought more than one kind of roast, he or she was being cheated, and if not paying attention, would not realize it. Her attitude was condescending and rude, saying she would do it for me "this time"... Like she was doing me a favor. Then she tried to give me $12.89, and I had to explain to her that she only owed me $2.89.

My complaint is that even though their advertising states one thing - there's nothing wrong with their advertising; the problem is how they ring up the items. Over the course of the entire sale period, they may cheat people out of a significant amount of money.
