Meijer Department stores have a severely heinous working enviroment, and probably have health code violations. ESPECIALLY if you buy baby products.
My departement manager and boss did not like me from the moment she met me, even though I didn't say two words to her. I heard her gossiping about me twice, and my coworkers, I heard once gossiping about what she, my boss, had said. I suspect that my "high school cheerleader" appearance (pretty, but very young looking apperently) caused her to assume that I acted like a high school cheerleader stereotype - ditzy, unintelligent, slow, and even slightly lazy. However, this is the opposite of my actual personality, I am a very hardworking individual who has higher than average intelligence and common sense.
Hearing my coworkers and boss gossip about me like over dramatic school girls (and completely careless ones at that) upset me, and made work more or less like high school: a nightmare. I do not think it's right when an upper level employee spreads rumors about her employee. I dreaded work like it was death.
Also: I was very very ill and attempted to call in sick. I was told if I didn't make it in, I didn't have a job to make it in to (and very impolitely might I add). This was during the swine flu outbreak. I worked as a cashier - touching peoples food, and I had to straighten the baby section - meaning babyfood, blankets, clothes, etc etc. It just doesn't seem right to have sick people handling your and your babies food and clothes.
