Safety Technologies, LLC (AKA Unique Worldwide Services) Job Ripoff rip off scam con artists

I read the article in The Birmingham News on June 8. I live in Dalton, Ga, but I have family in Birmingham. We were looking to move back to there. I was very excited when I read the article which stated "Office Help $15 hour no experience will train" and another article stated "Manager No Experience Required Will Train $38 - $48 K". I called and scheduled an interview on Friday June 13 at 3:00 P.M. That morning I drove 180 miles to this "so-called" job opportunity.

I arrived 10 minutes early with my 3 references, job history, and photo ID as asked. I was sent in a conference room where Julie Ann demonstrated a fire in a plate and then put it out with a halonaire fire extinguisher (I am unsure if this name of the extinguisher is right).

She then explained the Sales position and the manager position. I was told that with the manager position that I could Pick A City to work in. There were several cities that they were building offices in within the next 60 - 90 days. The minimum salary was $4000 a month and I would recieve a $500 sign on bonus at the end of the 2 - 4 week training.

At the end of this demonstration I was VERY excited. I then answered several questions on the back of my application, like am I my favorite person, etc. I followed Julie Ann into her office for an interview. She then asked more strange questions like: Did my neighbors like me? Did I like my neighbors? Did most people like me?

After about 15 minutes of this she looked at my resume and strangely stated with no extra emotion "Well, after reading your resume and talking to you I have decided that there is no reason to not give you the job. Congratulations." She then told me that I had to meet the President the next day (Saturday) and begin training Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9-11 AM and Wednesday from 5-8 PM for the next 2 - 4 weeks. She then handed me another application and at the bottom it stated that I had to pay $75 for a background check. I thought this was strange.

I questioned her for 10 minutes finding out that for the training I would recieve no pay except for 10% in commission and I decided that this was probably a fraud because all companies pay you a salary during your training. I then told her I had to discuss this with my husband since we would be relocating for this job.

She tried to convince me to sign saying that if I didn't that I could not begin until the next week. She finally said I could come back Monday before 11:00 which was the next interview and I could continue. I checked the internet and just happended to find all this information.

Since Safety Technologies was previously Unique Worldwide Services it was hard to come across this information under Safety Technologies. Is this a coincidence that they could not be traced to each other, I think not. Some wonderful person had happened to add in there consumer complaints that they had changed names.

I wrote my report hoping that someone would see that Safety Technologies is the same as Unique Worldwide Services. Now, this may not be a fact, but I don't see how it could not be. Everything that everyone has written about there experience is the same as mine. If I would have paid the $75 and reported to see the president the next day, then I'm sure I would have had to pay $95 to get a start up kit because I was told that I had to finish training and I would make commission of my demonstrations. I'm sure the kit was part of my demonstration and if I did not pay for this then I could not complete my training. I'm sure this is an ongoing cycle of having to pay an ammount to continue to the next step.

Anyone who has had this same experience please report so I can know I made a difference. Thank you for those who made a difference for me.
