Hi my name is Raelene. I read in the paper on how to join a company to earn lots of money and travel while doing it. Well, this is what I got out of it:
In April I called the phone number that was in the paper and spoke to a lady named Courtney. She told me that if I packed my things and could be ready by 5 o'clock that day I could go. So me being 18 and needing money, I went home and packed my things.
She told me that we were going to drive to Conneticut to meet the rest of the group. She also told me all it took to do this job was 90% personality and 10% effort and I believed her. It took us three hours to get there. When we finally got there she introduced me to my manager, Kevin, he seemed like a nice guy and all. I was on the sales group called Premier. My group number would be 044.
That night all we did was party (some pot, beer, stuff like that). I got up the next morning and it was time to go to work. What they would do is give you $20 a day for the first two weeks that was to eat do laundry and buy what ever you needed for that day which of course was not enough. Then we would work 12-14 hour days going door to door selling magizines. We were not allowed to tell people that we were in school or in college and that it could be used as a tax write off because we were told not to lie to the people (some did it at their own free will but you were told not to and if they found out you were you would loose your job) Ok enough about that.
The magazines that we sold were not discounted for the contest, they were actually more expenceive then the store. But we were told that the people would only buy a magazine from us if we were excited about the contest that we were in because, in all honesty, no one wants, needs or reads a magazines they would just buy once to help us win 20,000 points. However, the contest was if you sell $20,000 worth of magizines you would get a $1,000, but the trip was only to the person that sells the most in the 12 week period.
When i told my manager that i wanted to go home on 5/16 he told me to pack my SH@# and he would send me on the bus in the morning. About twenty mins after he told me that I went back to my room and started packing. I got a knock at my door and it was one of my friends but also my roommate she told my that Kevin had told her to tell me what ever she had to to keep me there. They tried to bribe me with money and other stuff but I said I wanted to go home. Kevin was angry at me and told me I was no good and called me all sorts of names. He told me that with in two weeks of being home I would call him begging to come back. Well, it's not going to happen.
I honestly did not know that people were not recieving the magizines that they were paying for until I read about it on the internet.
Palmetto is not only a rip-off to you as a customer, but also to the emlpoyees. Just remember that when the next kid come to your door. OH please don't tell them you're all set to buy, just tell them politely you're not interested and shut the door.
