Metropolitain Education Enterprises Used dishonest and deceitful Sales Tactics targeting a military family

To Whom It May Concern:
One day my husband and I were enjoying a quiet morning when we received a knock on the door. It was a man and a women asking for our time. They specifically asked if we were a military family. My husband is in the Army. The man gave us a presentation about a collection of wonderful books. There was a cookbook, a book on religions, children's books, a set of encyclopedia's and other books as well. With each sub-collection of books he told us the retail value and then at the end of the presentation he showed us what the price would be to buy the all of the books separately at retail value versus the special price we would get. My husband and I were very interested in many of the books and found that they could be useful within our home since we have a young daughter. The set of encyclopedia's he specifically said were worth $3000 some odd dollars just by themselves. The special price we would get the entire collection off books for was $3000 some odd dollars. So it seemed like a good deal. We read letters from other families saying how much this collection had enhanced their lives.

Fast forward a month later we had received all of the books and opened the boxes, peaked in but did not use or remove any of the books because we were moving from Fort Hood, Texas (Killeen) to Ft. Carson, Colorado (Colorado Springs). With the move we were become a bit financially strapped. We called the company to see if we could return them because financially it was not going to work out for us. They said no that we were under contract.

Upon some very simple Internet research we discovered much about this collection of books, the sales tactics and the company we were under contract with. First of the set of encyclopedia's is NOT worth $3000 some odd dollars but instead about $1000, putting the value of the entire collection probably less or equal to what we are under contract to pay, instead of being worth twice the value we were told. The salesmen lied to us about many things, the quality of the books, the retail values. His tactics made everything sound as though we were really getting a good deal. From the Internet we discovered that many other MILITARY families had been targeting and scammed the same way.

This is a scam against military families. The collection of books is not worth the money. We and other family are locked in this contract built on lies and dishonest sales tactics. Well now this is our letter that will never be read by another family at one of those dishonest presentations used to scam military families.
