I received a disturbing message on my phone answering machine when I returned home Friday June 26.
The call was from someone representing themselves as Joe Nelson from a
collection agency named Cory Hicks and Associates in Tucson, Arizona.
He accused me of being a business associate of a Jennifer Chambers who
operated a business in Salisbury, North Carolina and that he had been trying to find me to collect a debt owed to his client.
He went on to demand that I call him and give him my federal ID number
or he would obtain it from the IRS. He stated that if he had to get it from the
IRS, they would audit my tax returns for the next few years, so I should call him and give it to him. He also threatened to file a law suit against me if I did not pay the debt.
He gave me this number to call him: 520-290-2600 extension 23.
I called the number on Saturday, June 27 and left a message in his voice mailbox. I advised him that he had me mistaken with someone else and he could call me back if he wanted to talk with me, but I have not heard from him.
I believe this person was trying to steal my identity by getting me to give him my social security number as I do not know anyone named Jennifer Chambers and I have never been in business with anyone in Salisbury, NC or anywhere else.
I would like to have someone investigate this company and this individual and find out why he wanted my federal ID number.
I still have the recorded message that he left on my answering machine.
