To anyone considering using Admiral Merchants as their freight carrier, STAY AWAY! Or, if you are a trucker looking for a RESPECTABLE company to lease to, STAY AWAY! There are good companies out there, but this is NOT one of them. Any decent, semi-respectable company, will pay you when you work.
I have hauled for Admiral Merchants for several years and have noticed it was starting to decline quickly within the past year and a half. I am not sure if they are having financial issues or if they have had a change in management or what, what I DO KNOW is that they are NOT the same company I first agreed to lease on to.
I was recognized as their TOP money earner in my division for several periods in a row. I NEVER turned down a load that was needed. I NEVER took a load late. Any time they called, and were "in a pinch" I came through for them. Everything was good, for a while. Now, lets go back to around January. This is about the time I noticed the decline within their customer service or payroll dept performance. At first it was small "hold ups" or delays for my money. Next, they had the nerve to question why my wife was getting money from MY ACCOUNT via a T-Check?!?! This is MY MONEY, I drove and EARNED IT! Things got worse. My money began to be SHORT of what was agreed upon. When I would call, I had to FIGHT tooth and nail to get it. This went from being the exception, to being the norm. EVERY LOAD was a FIGHT! Every load! Sometimes it wasn't the amount, it was the fact that when I submitted it, it was starting to take several days to have it placed on my card!
Anyone who has ever trucked knows, that you have to have your money or you are DEAD! Fuel, tires, brakes, ALL cost money! One blowout without your money, you are stranded. This should not happen, when you have rightfully EARNED that money. I done my part by delivering ON TIME. PAY ME!
After having to fight every load for several months, I dropped a load in Mass., turned in my paperwork (June 10), and headed home to KY. I stopped several times on my way home and checked my account, you guessed it, NOTHING! I called on the 11th of June to ask where my money was and was told that they were not going to lease to me anymore! Thats fine, but what about my money! Today, the 15th of June and still, NO MONEY! Now they are telling me I have to mail them the torn-up stickers from my truck and THEN they would see if there is anything they need to deduct from my account BEFORE they send MY MONEY!
Do I have any legal rights? What do I do now?
This is a TERRIBLE was to treat your contractors! Everyone stay away!!
