Lilbourn, MO - 5 Dogs needlessly GASSED
Out of spite for local rescuer!
HELP ME! We need to demand CHANGE!
Please read, and make calls, send letters.
This is horrific.
Hello all,
You may remember me from a few months back with a situation in the Charleston, MO area. I am begging for everyone's assistance again. A friend/dog rescuer of mine in Lilbourn, MO, about 45 minutes away, needs our help to bring justice to 5 innocent victims who were GASSED yesterday out of spite. I am asking that everyone rise up again and demand justice and change at this small, rural AC. The Charleston, MO situation was so successful because everyone cried out together.
Please read the story below and consider helping out, how you did with me. I know you guys have a powerful voice, and I need your help once again. This spiteful killing WILL CONTINUE unless we demand change.
Thank you so much.

To all animal lovers,
Help me please. I have been pulling dogs faithfully from the AC facility in Lilbourn, MO for over a year now. Not one dog has been put down in that year. Today that all changed, and it was out of spite.
To give you a bit of history, I went to the City Council last year to tell them I wanted to help save the dogs. They were very glad someone cared. I got them food, I raised money for their new stainless steel water buckets, I bought dog houses, purchased Fly's Off for them and bought a new freeze-proof faucet that was never installed. Finally, after I told them there was a leak. They replaced the leaking faucet with a new freeze-proof faucet: but not the one I bought.
I also bought tarps this past winter and personally went out there to put them up in the cold. This summer after it got in the high 80's, I had to go back and take them down because it was so hot in there. Last year, they said they would build a new Facility. That has not happened. The dogs are still in tiny, cramped kennels. With the dog houses, water buckets and food bowls they have no room to avoid their own waste.
Last year when the ACO was in the hospital, the dogs went without food and water. Three days later, I called the Mayor and complained. He called Dennis Young to take care of it since the AC is under his dept. Dennis showed up and threw their food through the kennel wire. And their water. He said he wasn't scooping poop, it wasn't his job... He was a Police officer and he wasn't about to clean shit.
Then earlier this year, when we had the horrible ice storm, the dogs went without food and water. A local rescuer, bought bologna and bread to feed the dogs. Their water was frozen... If they had any water at all because the faucet was frozen...!!! Finally the Humane Society of MO took all the dogs from this area because we were in a crisis...
That is the care they get here. There are times that John the ACO... Does clean them well and give them food and water... But just as many times he doesn't...
Present day
Two weeks ago, there were 4 dogs in the AC of Lilbourn: Two Pits: a momma dog and her pup, a black Lab mix, and a white GS. I had to go by there daily to apply the Fly's Off because he wouldn't do it. Their ears were awful. Open sores and flies so bad they looked like Ticks. I currently have the white GS at my house and she just finished her last Sarcoptic mange treatment and is doing very well.
I pulled the black lab mix and took him to the vet, then to my house. He was so scared and wild I couldn't let him off leash... And he didn't walk on the leash. I have so many dogs at my house. I took him back to AC... Thinking we might find someone who had the time to socialize him. We have NO foster homes at all and I presently have at 18 dogs at my house and a waiting list to get in. John the ACO knew I would place those dogs. He knew we had a rescue for the two Pitties but he said the owner wanted them back. I argued that their 10 days were up and we wanted them, but he said NO. During the same visit, he also told me that I couldn't take dogs and bring them back, that I had to keep them. I told him I would go over his head about that. Apparently he went to his supervisor, the Police Chief Dennis Young, and complained. Dennis doesn't think much of what we do. He wants no part of it. He has dogs of his own, but last year he asked a local rescuer to take them and find them homes, which we did. He still has dogs I guess but no fence. He chains them out side.
Today, knowing I had rescue for the momma pit and her pup, knowing we were working placing the dogs, he took them and HAD THEM GASSED in the City of Malden, MO. He took 5 dogs, one a Terrier mix. Just came in.
There is only one reason they would put those dogs down, and that was to show me I can't have a say in what happens there. Dennis Young the Police Chief would have been the one to authorize it. They spent $60 to put down dogs that were going to rescue. This is a statement they are making, but I will not sit by and watch it happen. This is a very small rural town of 1,300 people... They make the rules as they go. I am calling the Dept of AG tomorrow to discuss it with them but I need all of you to help me please.
I am begging you to write the City Hall of Lilbourn MO. Attn Dale Ray Mayor Lilbourn, MO. 63862, and be sure to include your displeasure of what they did and how it was done. Please ask them to work with rescues and save all the dogs we can.
If you call or write. Not once but several times, they will get the message. The mayor Dale Ray and another Council member Larry are animal loves... Surely they do not want this to happen again.
Help me with this I beg you. Please be courteous, state the facts. Do not rant or rave, do not accuse, just complain that this can't happen again, and someone needs to account for this horrible injustice. Dennis Young for one...!!!
The number for City Hall is: 573-688-2584, Police non-emergency is: 573-688-2513, and fax number to City Hall is: 573-688-2913. Let them know this should never happen again. Who would kill 5 dogs for no reason, other then they can.
