I was sent a letter that said I won a sweepstakes along with 20 other people and my share was 55,500.00. And given a check for $3,955.00 I'm supposed to cash this check that I kept (uncashed). I was told that I needed to send a money order to a Billy Herron in Detroit, Michigan 48101,12 Maine St, by a John Gilmore @ 876-882-7177 and the 1st person I spoke to was a Mr. Bob Marcindi @ the phone # provided on the letter. He told me that because I didn't have a bank account that he would instead send me a cashiers check. So I kept the 1st check I was sentand I still have it now. Needless to say, I was never sent another check because I told Mr. Marcindi that I called a check cashing and was told by an agent that this was a scam. That was on 5/13/09. I didn't do anything or call Mr. Marcindi back and that's when I was contacted by John Gilmore who told me that everything was legitimate & that I would receive the cashiers check, and of coarse still no check. He told me he would call me back later on down the line. I could tell that he was calling from his home because I could not only hear children in the background playing but what sounded like a woman preparing a meal, pots and pans rattling in the background while she & someone else conversed about family things. The number I was called from was different then the number Mr. Gilmore gave me JM 876-580-4613 was on my caller ID. Mr. Gilmore said that in the meantime while I'm waiting to get my check he would start the paperwork in Albany for me to get the rest of the $50,000. I'm willing to stop these people cold in their tracks so if anyone can help me stop them please help me as soon as you can. People like them should not be able to get away with these scams at the emotional expense of others.
