UTP Marketing Internet Scam-Hiring Mystery Shoppers-Possible Identify Thieves

3/17/09-I applied for job # 34017385 on internet www.Job.com 3/20/09-I received the job offer from UTP Marketing as a "Mystery Shopper; 3/21/09-I received by e-mail, a UTP Marketing Agreement Form-I filled it out, signed it, and faxed it back to Joseph Carter, Human Resources Manager @ 1-888-589-6696.3/24/09-I received an e-mail from Mr. Carter saying they received my fax, and now he needed for me to fill out and sign the attached Criminal Background Check Authorization Form, and fax it back to him with a photo copy of my Soc. Sec. Card, and my current driver's license. I faxed what was asked on 3/25.

3/27/09 (approx)- I received a phone call from someone who identified himself as the person conducting the Criminal Background Check for UTP marketing, and he asked me my SSN, my drivers license #, my past phone numbers and addresses, and my mother's maiden name. I thought this was too personal, but I gave him the info he asked for. 4/3-I had not heard from UTP Marketing to give me my assignments, so I e-mailed Mr. Carter to ask why. I also called his phone and left a message (1-866-709-3086 ext 555) since he did not answer. I never received a response. 4/8- I received an e-mail from Mr. Carter saying that my background was approved, and now I needed to send him a signed authorization for direct bank deposit form (attached), and fax it back to him with a copy of a canceled check.

On 4/9, I faxed back the completed form, and a letter from a bank official in lieu of the canceled check. I heard nothing back for a couple of days, and suddenly I began to doubt UTP's credibility. I called BBB, Chamber of Commerce, Tax office in Wilmington, Del, and they had no information. I even contacted the Managing Office of the Business Center where UTP was supposedly located, and they never heard of them! I tried to call them on 4/14 and 4/15 to get their explanation, and they never returned the call. On 4/15 I sent Mr. Carter an e-mail saying that I felt like I was being taken advantage of since I had given them personal information, and not received any work, which was promised within a few days of starting employment. I said I was going to report my experience to proper authorities if someone did not come forward. 4/17-I received a call from, Bryan Smith, the apparent owner of UTP. He asked me what I was upset about. I told him that I felt like I might be a victim of Identity Theft, since I was forgotten after I gave his people private information. He, of course, denied it, and quickly switched me back to Joseph Carter to work thing out. Mr. Carter said they were behind schedule, and that I would surely receive work by the end of April.

4/23- I e-mailed Mr. Carter to ascertain his commitment to have work assignments for me by the end of April. I never got a reply. 4/27- I e-mailed Mr. Carter again asking for a status of my work schedule. I never got a response. 4/29- I placed a phone call (1-866-709-3086 ext 555) to Mr. Carter, asking to please respond, and I have heard nothing. I am so afraid that this company is involved in an identity theft ring, and I am the latest victim.
