Deficient quality work and attitude problem

This email documents a complaint against the quality of service and attitude demonstrated by Arie Glasman of Plumbco, who last visited my home in October. The reason I am only now writing to lodge my complaint is because earlier today, I experienced a recurrence of the problems previously and allegedly corrected by Arie Glasman.

In an associate referred me to Arie Glasman of Plumbco. At the time, my toilet had overflowed and water had backed up in the bathtub.

Arie, whose company is located in Van Nuys, visited the home I rent in Atwater Village.
Using a plumber’s snake, Arie extracted roots from a pipe opening located between my residence and the front house. Within "minutes" the water in the tub and toilet subsided. Arie extracted roots from the clogged pipe and for 15 minutes of work, charged $125.

Several weeks later, I again called Arie, so that he could install a connecting pipe from the gas line located in the kitchen to my new washing machine/dryer. He appears to have done a good job because the work has endured without a problem.

Some weeks later, I again called Arie because the bathroom faucet had sustained a leak originating in the cold water knob. I had to leave my residence, so my roommate remained on the premises while Arie worked. For the work which I am told only took a few minutes to complete, Arie charged $125. When I returned home I was pleased that the leak had been stopped but unhappy with the low-grade faucet Arie installed. I later visited Home Depot which I found the identical faucet selling for $29.95.

In October the toilet backed up, once again spilling out across the bathroom floor and into the hall. Water once again backed up into the tub. I again called Arie who inserted a plumber's snake into the pipe opening located at the front house. 10 minutes later, work was completed.in addition to roots, Arie dredged up what appeared to be Kleenex and other materials. For the 15 minutes of work, Arie charged $150.

The following morning, I heard the now familiar sound of bubbling water emitting from the toilet. Entering the bathroom I discovered that the water was once again rising and in minutes, dirty, polluted water poured out over the rim of the toilet while the tub became filled with water.

I called Arie immediately. Though I would never describe Arie as friendly or even pleasant, after advising him of what had just transpired, his voice became angry and insolent as he rudely exclaimed, "I do not work for free! â€

Having merely described what had occurred and never having suggested that he return to my residence to work for "free", I found his comment and overall demeanor unacceptable and rude. Maintaining my composure, I asked if he could please return to my residence and recheck the pipes. Evidently irked, he informed me that he had other appointment scheduled but would do me the "favor" and visit me first to find out what had caused the current backup. A short time later, Arie arrived and checked the pipes though evidently annoyed that he had to revisit my residence. I left before he completed the work, as I had a pending appointment. Upon completion of the work, Arie asked that my roommate issue another check, again in the amount of $150. The total spent by us for Arie's 2 visits, both of which lasted a total of less than 35 minutes, was $300.00. Does that seem reasonable to your company? I am not sure what you charge to use a plumber's snake, but that fact that he did not run the snake for a sufficient amount of time during his first visit, seems to point to a lack of foresight on Mr. Glasman's part.

Furthermore, during his tirade he lost sight that he is being paid to perform a service and that as a customer, I should not have been subjected to his unprofessional ranting and inane assertions that he does not work for "free." Evidently, he does not work for free as attested to by every check I issued to him, which he promptly cashed.

I also provided Arie's telephone number to the property owner, who later informed me that Arie had been rude and in his words, "Arie has a bad attitude."

This morning, while showering, I could hear the water in the toilet bubble and minutes later, the tub backed up again. Arie was here in October and today is December 28th. Does this seem reasonable? The owner previously informed the residents of the front house, that they should not place anything in the toilet other than toilet paper. At my residence, we never place foreign objects or even Kleenex in the toilet.

We have now called another plumbing company as the work performed by Arie is deficient in quality, hurried, and overpriced. The faucet he installed can only be described as "cheap" and we are having difficulty turning one of its knobs. The time spent by Arie to do the work does not seem consistent with the price charged. What's more, performing work which corrects the cause of the backup is evidently something he is not qualified to do.

Lastly, his attitude is both abhorrent and unacceptable. I am not interested in being the object of his personal issues and frustrations and when he was asked to do a job, it did not include having to listen to his emotional and illogical ramblings. He was called and PAID to correct a plumbing problem and that is all! Evidently, his expertise is as limited as his understanding of what constitutes sound customer service.
