In feb we signed a contract with groff to build a lehigh home. They told us 8 - 10 months. This was at the very start of the boom. We sold our home up north in oct when groff said move in would be nov 1. Upon arriving here the house was about 1/2 done. I knew we had problems so i hired a lawyer the next day. That was the best thing i did. The lawyer handled all of groffs crap for us (by the way groffs son is a retarded idiot).
We finally moved in march 1. The septic problem happens within about 12 - 18 months to about 85% of groff houses. The problem is that the hole they make for the drain field is not deep enough nor does it have the proper materials in the field. The a/c problem starts the first hot day. We found out the problem with that is the duct work in the attic was not installed properly. They use a single line that has branches going to all the vents.
The home needs a minumum of 3 - 4 lines branching off into different sections of the house. Once that is corrected the a/c works great. We learned the inspectors during that time were so busy that they didn't inspect houses being built by companies, like groff, that had been in lehigh for a number of years. Mark, who was the supervisor for groff in 2005 who groff finally fired, would just tell the inspectors how the work was done and they would sign off on it.
Anyway, we sued groff and went to the deposition stage. Once they saw our lawyer had them dead to rights they settled and wrote us a check. The check didn't make up for the 4 months in a hotel or the believe groff has that his customers are idiots and he can do no wrong, but it felt great to get into his pocket.
I would most certainly join in a class action suit against groff. The fact that there are so many people with the same problems and that inspectors didn't really inspect makes a strong case. If anyone wants to get this going contact me at
