Bryan Dingman Held Without Bond In Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A Navy petty officer who works at the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station has been jailed in the death of his 1-month-old son.
An arrest affidavit says 24-year-old Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Bryan Dingman told investigators that he got frustrated and repeatedly hit his son, Enzo, after the infant "headbutted" the man while in his arms.
Dingman was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse Monday after he called 911 to report the baby wasn't breathing.
The arresting charge was upgraded to suspicion of first-degree murder Wednesday night when the boy died at a Colorado Springs hospital.
Dingman, a six-year Navy veteran, works as a missile warning technician at a U.S. Strategic Command unit at Cheyenne Mountain.
He is being held without bond at the El Paso County jail.
The child was the first homicide victim this year in Colorado Springs, police spokesman Lt. David Whitlock said.

A 1-month-old boy police suspect was a victim of abuse died of his injuries Wednesday evening at Memorial Hospital.
Police arrested the child's father, 24-year-old Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Bryan Dingman, on suspicion of felony child abuse when they got a report of the baby's injuries on Monday. Dingman was bailed out of jail, but police arrested him again Wednesday night on suspicion of first-degree murder. He's being held without bond at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
Dingman is an operations specialist with the Navy assigned to a U.S. Strategic Command unit at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station.
Police said Monday that a medical examination found the child, Enzo Dingman, was suffering from a brain bleed. Authorities said he couldn't breathe without a ventilator, and the boy died about 5 P.M. Wednesday.
It's the first homicide this year in Colorado Springs, said police spokesman Lt. David Whitlock.
Officers were called to the father's home in the 3400 block of Vera Cruz Court at 2:45 P.M. Monday after Dingman called 911 to report that the child wasn't breathing, police said.
Dingman initially claimed the child fell off a couch and onto the carpeted floor, an arrest affidavit said. He admitted later that he threw the child into a bassinet after the boy vomited on him and that he hit the child in the back of the head because, he said, the baby "headbutted" him as he held the child.
He continued striking the child in the back of the head while burping him, authorities said.
The last time Dingman hit the boy, police said, the child went limp and stopped breathing. Dingman said he attempted CPR before calling 911.
In the Navy, Dingman works for a unit that oversees military space activities. Officials at U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., said they were gathering more information on Dingman.
