Back in July my father in law missed a mortgage payment. He paid the mortgage in August and in September.
He called American Home Mortgage (in late August early Sept) to request some paperwork to do a loan remodification, he was given the run around, after 3 phone calls to them, they sent it.
I filled it all out for him, included everything they asked for except pay stubs since there was none, included a cover letter explaining it. Sent it back to them to never heard one word from them, another issue came up so we called them, in the talk with the csr, we found out that the paperwork was "conveniently thrown away" after being told they never received it. Was told it wasn't completely filled out.
We redid the paperwork, made copies, resubmitted it all to them AGAIN, again never heard from them, called them 2 weeks later to again be told, they never got it, it was thrown away, wasn't completed et etc. We then asked why they never contacted us, was lied to said they called and sent a letter, never happened.
The csr told us basically it was his lack of income that they couldn't do anything, we asked to speak with the home retention team, was told, no, they didn't have one, asked to speak with a manager, again was told no one was available or they didn't have one.
A payment was missed in October due to my father in law spending the whole month in the hospital for congestive heart failure, kidney failure, pneumonia, and other health issues, on his behalf we called American Home Mortgage to talk with them about the missed payment, and about a reverse mortgage, was told " We don't do short sales" an hung up on us. (After sending the pay off amount)
He was approved for the reverse mortgage but American Home Mortgage wouldn't talk to him about it. He could have been clear and free from this nightmare with this company if they only cooperated and worked with us.
I went to their website and sent them a message, it went unresponded, I call them, start to explain things, they hang up on us. We missed a payment in November due to dealing with my father in law being home but had to be taken care of 24/7, we sent a payment in December it was returned with a letter stating that they filed for foreclosure on his home.
We never knew they were filing foreclosure until the letter came with the returned check, they don't want to communicate with us, are not willing to work with us, they lie, take his money, don't apply payments, withhold payments to rack up late charges, throw paperwork away, they are a horrible company to deal with, if you ask them where to send something, they can't give a straight address.
If he was to do a reverse mortgage now, it would be $10.000 LESS than what it was 3-4 months ago. We finally got served court papers for the foreclosure after Christmas, hired a lawyer, filed a response and now its a wait an see, and none of this would have happened if they were only willing to work with him.
Instead they are going to throw a 75yr old veteran who has serious life long ongoing health issues out on the street, he never missed a payment until that time in July of they made his life a living hell, he barely can cover his mortgage an very little money left to pay the rest of his bills, much less buy groceries all because his wife passed away in Dec and he lost his business.
I am angry an frustrated that they don't care to work with him especially while the economy is in the shape it is, they rather have him out on the streets.
