Got a postcard saying "we have great news for you give us a call at...". They had my name on the card and it was delivered to my mail box so I was curious. I called the number and was told that my name had been entered into a sweepstakes prize draw to be finalized on some future date. Prizes were $25k, a mustang, and a trip.in addition I was told that I automatically qualify to win a diamond watch which will be sent to me promptly. Then he tried to sell me some magazines.
I already figured it was a scam earlier during the conversation but when he started talking about the magazines I knew the unavoidable request for some juicy credit card information was soon to come. Of course I was not mistaken. I told him I was not interested in the magazines but aksed whether I was still going to be sent the diamond watch and be entered into the sweepstakes. He said yes. I asked what compay was so generous as to offer such great prizes plus a free diamond watch to every costumer who enters the drawing. He gave me a name: "Family Reading Club" from Clearwater Florida. According to the guy I bought something from this company at some point in the past and that is how they had my details - unlikely.
Anyway, I never heard of this company before. They have a website but if you ask me its obscure. No real address and only some 1888 phone number.
I cant really know for sure whether this company is on this scam or whether their name just got used. Considering that they call themselves a magazine service company or something of that sort and magazines are excactly what I was trying to be sold to me, I think its obvious that they are behind the scam. Beware.
