Credit protection cancelled after layoff, citing a late payment

I had Capital One as my credit card. I had been laid off and paid for years for the credit protection just in case something ever happened to my job. When I called Capital One about my layoff they said that they canceled my credit protection. I asked them why and they stated that my payment was late on my card. I had never been late, and I notified them a month in advanced and filled out all the paperwork. Now they have added interest on the amount and I can't pay the payments. They are a big ripoff. Grrrr Capital One
