I rarely check my statement as it is directly paid, but did to question the outragous overseas charge. It would have been cheaper to use a calling card. I questioned the Federal Subscriber Line charge of 6.42 monthly. I was informed the following: The Federal Universal Service Fund Surcharge is a monthly, per line surcharge paid by you to recover our contribution to the Federal Universal Service Fund. This fund supports telecommunications and information services in schools, public libraries, and rural healthcare facilities. The fund also subsidizes local services to high cost areas and low income customers. The FUSF percentage rate is set by the FCC and is subject to change quarterly."
My question is why are consumers mandated to pay for their donations; Don't we have a right to choose where our donations go without the government forcing us to do so? Is this actually legal?
