Recent encounter with Doug Westfield

First I would like to Thank usacomplaints.com for exsisting, I quickly ran to my office to query signtronix when the salesman walked through our door and seeing all the complaints made me catious of his "FANTASTIC OFFER" sales pitch.

Secondly I would Like to say be WARY, VERY WARY Western Massachusetts!

I recently opened a restaurant and don't have the most attractive signs yet due to cost. Well that apparently made me a good canidate for a traveling signtronix rep, supposedly a regional manager by the name of Doug out of New Hampshire.

He approached my brother and I with a "fantastic offer" as he would call it. So we decided that we could listen to his sales pitch and at least give him a chance. Maybe all the complaints were secluded incidences. He started off with his description of the "GREAT" product that his company made. Showing us the cheesy light up car sign. First off all the graphics look like they were created in 1985 in the earliest known image creation software. Well he decided that we were interested enough to draw us up a quick sketch of what our "GREAT" new sign could look like. (He may want to consider investing in some non-toxic markers... So he doesn't lose more brain cells, he needs the ones he has.)

Well after his sales pitch he started scribbling prices, first the price for the "Regular" customer who asks signtronix to make them a sign. Then there was our price, The "Showcase" price because they had money in their "advertising budget" to help out with new areas, so they could put their logo on the bottom lip and people would investigate and call for their own flashy new "GREAT" sign. Well the discount amount was far less then we had anticipated with all his talks of a "FANTASTIC DEAL, that we COULD NOT refuse." 10% off isn't fantasic Doug, nor is an extra 10% off to cover the cost of shipping and installation which we would be responsible for, regardless of the actual cost of these items. Especially when the normal person who contacts signtronix typically saves 10%? I though we were special, Doug? Now these are the prices for the leased through Northern Leasing deal. The price was almost cut in half when we talked about a cash deal, But we saw no "FANTASTIC" savings with the cash deal.

Fortunatly for me, my brother is a former used cars salesman and saw straight through all the B.S. We countered and said we didn't see the fantasticness of his deal. I showed him a qoute to replace the current type of sign face we had and told him that a "FANTASTIC" offer should at least come close to this, especially as a unique "SHOWCASE" sign for the area. Not be 10 times as expensive as the current faces we have, for helping him advertise which was his starting sales line. Well that made him upset, because his signs are far superior and can't even be compared to a regular sign on any level, he started to lose his cool. Not something you want to do as a Regional Rep. Of this great national company that claims to be a great resource for the small business community.

Needless to say he started packing up in his tantrum of rejection and non-negotiable today only deal. We asked for a business card in case we reconsidered and wanted to do something in the future with his company. He snidely remarked that we "WOULD" see one of his "GREAT" signs in the local area within 4 to 6 weeks and we just missed out on a "GREAT" opportunity. We could call the number on the bottom of that sign if we were interested and that person would make the comission of their sign, which we didn't get to talk about because we rejected his deal. Well I don't know about you, but I wouldn't trust a salesman that won't over-enthusiasticaly give you his contact information. Business people LOVE giving our their precious little business cards.

I think he was just upset that 2 mid-20's didn't buy his sugar-coated B.S. And were too good at negotiating for him to handle. Not to mention his over-confidence and superior view towards his "GREAT" product that he wouldn't even compare to a flat faced sign because his were just far superior. Which I believe would be comparing, Doug... Thanks for wasting our time with your "FANTASTIC" offer though. And, If you do manage to convince someone to buy your "GREAT" sign in the local area, we will be sure to stop by and LAUGH at them first, and then help them file a complaint because I would almost guarantee that they won't feel like they got a "FANTASTIC" deal.

Doug if you read this, you should really work on not contradicting yourself in your sales pitch. It shouldn't have holes in it that are absurdely easy to see. You should also work on negotiating, it's a common practice in the "REAL" business world, I guess it lacks in your fantasy land of "GREAT" signs that are "FAR SUPERIOR" then anything I could purshase at a local sign shop for anything less than a small fortune.

We would have considered buying if you hadn't come in with your "FANTASTIC OFFER" deal that you didn't deliver on. If you had come in and said look at my sign, here is what I would make for your business, it costs x$ and will take x weeks to deliver, or you could make a payment plan for x$'s down and x$'s a month. Don't make the consumer feel like they missed the boat when you walk out the door, make yourself available if they change their minds, that is what business cards were invented for. The world is full of far too many too good to be true deals that always come up short. Where as you have a great product that I think people would actually consider buying without all the B.S. That you are trying. You shouldn't have to bully and guilt people to sell your product.
