Wells Fargo Banik, La Quinta
I asked for a money order to pay for an EBAY computer. They gave me an official check without telling me

I asked for a money order. You can put a stop payment in on a money order for any reason. The teller gave me what I thought was a money order. She said nothing. I put it in my billfold and sent it by overnite mail to pay for a computer on EBAY. That nite I got an e-mail from an EBAY user that said he thought the computers were a scam. I went to Wells Fargo the next morning to put in a stop payment. I forwarded the letter to EBAY. The bank manager told me I couldn't put in a stop p ayment, because it was an official check not a money order. He said the bank has a policy of not telling customers they are giving them official checks when they ask for money orders over $1,000 in spite of the fact that you can't put in a stop payment on an official check. Thus you have no protection against fraud with an official check and 100% protection with a money order. I found out you could get an exception for theft by misrepresentation (stolen, lost or destroyed are the only reasons for stopping payment on an official check) You can put in a stop payment on a money order for any reason.in 2 days EBAY suspended the seller's account for one reason as fraud (EBAY won't tell consumers the reason due to confidentiality). The check was not cashed for 4 days as I tried to set up an escrow with the seller. I got an exception granted by someone at Wells Fargo - either regional director or her assistant. However, the branch manager revoked it, saying that it had to be actual fraud, not that I believed it was fraud. I told him that I asked for a money order and EBAY had suspended the guy's account. The bank manager just rudely told me I should have looked at what they gave me. He told me they would give me a refund when I filed a police report. The police wouldn't file a report until the seller didn't send the computer (in 2-3 weeks). After 2 1/2 weeks I filed police report when computer never came. Then Wells Fargo said they couldn't reimburse the money because the check was cashed. The police are doing absolutely nothing that I can see. I've been a Wells Fargo customer for 20 years. Wells Fargo had no interest in protecting me whatsoever. If Wells Fargo had given me the money order I would never have been de-frauded because I would have been able to stop the payment before the check cashed. Wells Fargo knew the check had not been cashed as they have a division that monitors when official checks are cashed. They had no idea what they were doing and they didn't care if I paid $2,225 for their error as long as they could blame it on me for I guess not realizing they made the error. It was their policy, however, not to tell people they are not giving them money orders, because, as the bank manager said, they can't just create a lot of money orders over $1,000.
