A letter was received dated Aug. 28 congratulating me on my winning of $1,000, 000 in a sweepstakes sponsored by Martha Stewart Living Magazine. Considering I haven't entered a sweepstakes, it made it difficult to believe I could win one. The letter also contained a check for $5889.00 to cover expenses not paid by PCH.
I did make the call to Ms Judith Bensen, who has voice mail that is answered complete with Publisher Clearing House music and "dream" statement. She is currently working on setting up my prize "delivery" for next week and is going to call me back with all the necessary arrangements and where I can send the insurance premium.
I asked Ms Bensen how she would suggest I confirm she was legimate and this was the real PCH. She stammered but recovered quickly and offered to transfer me directly to the IRS agent handling the file, Mr. Harvey Armstrong. I told her I didn't realize the IRS had representative working for PCH. Ms Bensen said she is an attorney and has been doing this for a long time.
Needless to say, I did not send money to this company and hope these people can be caugh and stopped before some poor, elderly person gets bilked out of their precious savings.
