I received a letter in the mail that looked very much as if the Tax Assessors had sent it. Everything considered, with property values going down, etc., things seemed to make sense, and a little frightening at the late fee of $67.00 that would be charged if I did not act soon.
For the most part I am very much aware of how these scammers do operate. They had all the information correct as I checked their figures with my Property Tax Records. I foolishly sent them my check in the amount of $171.00, which they cashed immediately. Several days later my daughter stopped by, and upon examining the letter said it was a scam. It was too late to stop payment on the check.
I am an 84 year old widow, living on Social Security, and it is hard enough making ends meet without these scam artists getting in the picture and taking from those that cannot afford it.
