Recently my husband and I applied for adoption of Luke, a beautiful 4 year-old Golden Retriever through Retreivers and Friends. Within hours, Liz White sent us an e-mail offering up a volunteer to do a home visit. I immediately responded that we would like that.
Shortly afterward, Marianne, a volunteer sent us an e-mail to set up a home visit. I called Marianne and we set up an appointment for Saturday, August 30. Marianne arrived early and conducted the home check. She was a very nice lady and a true animal lover. Marianne liked our home and thought Luke would love our backyard. Marianne gave us Liz' cell phone number and told us to call her and set up an appointment to meet Luke.
I called Liz' cell phone and left a message. A few hours later, she returned our call and asked if we called about the Chiuauah. I told her we were calling about Luke. Liz told us a little about Luke. She said if we were a good match, we could take him home. I asked what time worked for her. She named off at least 2 times and I told her we had Church at 11 am and would get out around noon. Liz suggested 3 pm. I agreed to that.
On August 31, my husband and I drove to Murietta to pick up Luke. Around 2:50, my husband wanted to stop for a bite to eat because he had not eaten since the morning. He had been working hard on installing a new doggie door.
At that time, I called Liz' cell phone to let her know we were running a little late, but could not get through. At about 3:00, I got through and told her exactly where we were at. The restaurant was about a half a mile from her house. At first, she asked if I was calling about the Chiuauah. I told her I was calling about Luke.
Liz sounded a little upset and said she had other appointments but would see us when we arrived. About 3:04, Liz called back, very upset. She asked me if it was going to take 45 minutes for us to get to her house. I said we just got our food and should be there in 15 minutes. She kept telling me about her having other appointments and said she had a 4:00 appointment.
At that point, I did not really know what to say. I had concerns that she was going to cancel on us. I gave the phone to my husband. When she spoke to my husband, he explained we just got our food. I heard him ask if she wanted us to leave our meal. Then I heard him say, "So you don't want us to have Luke?"
Liz had hung up on my husband. I tried calling her back and she would not answer. We immediately boxed our food, paid our bill, and left the restaurant. At approximately 3:08, we arrived at Liz' house. The gate was locked. I tried several times to call her, but no answer.
Finally, her husband came to the gate and asked, "May I help you?" I told him we were here for Luke. He said, "I don't know what you're talking about." (Lie)
I asked if this was Liz' residence. He said it was. He told us she went to another appointment and she was very upset. We explained that we drove all the way from Lakeside, which was 67.5 miles (one way) to get this dog and our 8 year-old and 6 year-old children were looking forward to this.
He suggested coming back another day. He was of no help whatsoever.
I called Marianne, hoping she could ask Liz to reconsider. Marianne called us back and said Liz was very upset and was not changing her mind.
This irrational behavior from Liz was over 8 minutes. We drove 135 miles, burnt up a half a tank of gas for nothing. We were treated very rudely and unprofessionally by Liz White.
We strongly discourage anybody from adopting any dog or cat from Liz. She is very insensitive, deceitful, and unprofessional.
Sad for the dogs, sad for Luke, sad for any animal in her care, and sad for our children.
