I found Deana's story from Johnson City, Tennessee and my story is identical to hers. Some charming guy came to my door and sold me a subscription to a magazine. I wrote a check for $42 then decided to cancel it right away since I am a graduate student doing cancer research and can't afford to really spend that kind of money. I waited the 120 days for my refund and it never came!
I have tried calling the number they give you (256-882-1540) but it has been disconnected. I didn't know what to do and today I was searching the internet for any information on C & S and came across Deana's complaint. As I suspected it looks like it was a scam.
I had ordered a subscription to Elle magazine for myself on 10/09/07 and canceled the transaction on 10/12/09. I have a copy of my receipt the "sales" person gave to me and a copy of the Notice of Cancellation that I sent to the company.
My job is hard enough especially with making so little money but when things like this happens and I lose my faith in people, it just makes it that much harder!
