To all who have posted out here... There is power in numbers. If you do not owe the amount to AFNI, and they are giving you a hard time about it and trying to get you to "just pay it" please please call the Attorney General's Office in your state and ask for a mediator. It is also imperative that you take the time to go to the Better Business Bureau for Central Illinois and file the online complaint. It is very quick and painless. They contact AFNI and give them 30 days to answer. I contacted them about an amount of my credit report from a utility company. When I called initially, they asked me to fax certain documents to prove I never lived at the address, as well as a photo ID and current utility bill. I did what they asked. After many calls, I was not seeing any action at 30,60 or 90 days. One person was so mean to me I was in tears. I sent what they asked and they said it proved nothing. When asked what else I could submit to them, I was told anything that will prove it is not mine... Ridiculous resposne to prove a negative! I called the AG office in my state, and had to have a mediator contact the utility company because they would not deal with me once amount was sent to AFNI. Finally, the utility company said it was not mine. After mediator contacted AFNI, and the BBB in Illinois contacted BBB, it was taken off! It took four months. People, if every single one of you wrote to the Attorney General in Illinois, something would be done. It is a pain in the butt, but, please go to BBB of Central Illinois and fill out the complaint... You will get a result. Do not just let it go. If you do not owe the money, fight for yourselves. AFNI is not out to help you, they are out to collect money. Please, people, call your AG office for mediation and then contact BBB in Illinois. This will work! Every one out here write to the AG in Illinois. If they recieve 200 or 300 letters, they will investigate, otherwise, nothing will ever change!
