I had just returned home after caring for my 85 year old mother who had a massive heart attack and triple bypass. I wasn't even unpacked when the doorbell rang. She said she hoped to sell enough subscriptions so she could start college in the fall. I was tired and just wanted to get rid of her and go back to unpacking. I looked over the list and mentally thought, we could afford to make about a $150 donation plus get some new magazines. My "donation" was $143.00.
Subsequently, my mother took a turn for the worst and I was gone again until the middle of October.
I totally forgot about the magazines until we were working on our taxes and I saw the copy of the check in my check register.
She knocked on a lot of doors in our neighborhood and I did notice she spent enough time at some houses to have sold them subscriptions too. The ironic thing is, I've heard no one complain.
