In the Spring of I probably received my first letter from this "church." They claimed to know me and that I had been going through lots of struggles. They wanted to pray specifically for me and would send specific details in how to use the letter to get the most benefit... Example, use a prayer cloth, put something under your pillow for 3 nights, keep a special nickel in my wallet (they were all different). Then, of course the next step was to send them money. I was in an extremely vulnerable position at that time and (stupidly) believed it. I thought maybe someone had given these people my name so they could pray for me. I would get letters sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. Finally, my husband found out and told me I could not send any more money. I probably sent $5,000 or possibly more to them.
After I stopped sending them money, the letters became fewer and further apart, but February I am STILL getting them. I immediately tear them up, but of course on the outside is some catchy phrase like, "God really wants to help you through this hard time right now with a scripture." I tear them into shreds when I get them, but today I had to look it up online just to make sure I was right. When I read the reports and saw the pictures of the same letters, it made me sick.
These people need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I do not know how they could have gotten away with such a far-reaching scam for so long without being shut down.
I hope someone is investigating them and I will be happy to testify. If these people are preying on the vulnerable and "pocketing" their money without any of it going to a charitable cause, how deplorable.
