On 12/27/07 I received a pre-approval letter from Tina Wood at North American Lending saying I had been approved for a loan. I was happy about it because I've been having a somewhat difficult time financially. However, from the outset I had reservations because I could not remember applying to North American Lending for a loan. That should have been the first red flag but like I said, I was having a difficult time financially so I overlooked that fact.
Ms. Wood and I spoke briefly and she told me she would e-mail me some documents to look over. The documents should have been the next red flag. Not only was there no address or physical contact information on the documents but there were several typos throughout. Fortunately I never sent sensitive information, e.G. Ss#, bank statements or pay stubs. No, just my money.
This is where Kurstin Cooper came in. Kurstin herself is a walking red flag. Not to make excuses for myself but had I not been in a financial bind there is no way I would have fallen for this scam. Needless to say, I did. Kurstin explained the whole nine yards about how they had to have a security deposit to protect themselves and that it was even refundable if you paid your loan on time for twelve months. So off I went to Western Union with my three month security deposit totaling $1,044. Plus the $83 it cost to send to Canada. Kurstin informed me that once Isent the funds to Angela Petula, the funds would be Direct Deposited into my bank account. I found it odd that I would be sending the money to an individual and not the company itself. Yet stupidity reigned supreme and I sent it anyway.
After almost a month I've not received my funds and do not expect to. However, I do plan on finding out what legal options I have. I have all paperwork and the receipt from Western Union.
My fellow consumers, please stay away from this company.
