I was checking my online bank statement, and discovered 2 charges for "BetaMax VoIP Credit". One was for $2.08 and the other one was for $74.15. I think the $2.08 charge was to make sure a charge would go through on the account before they tried to charge a larger amount.
I had never even HEARD of this company before. I don't use a VoIP phone service, haven't changed my home phone service, and haven't called out of the state, let alone out of the country!
I tried to locate an email address or phone number for this company, with no luck. On their website, under "Press FAQ", there is a question: "I want to contact Betamax. How?". BetaMax response is: "We are busy developing our products and are a small company. To be honest we have little time. If you still have questions about Betamax, please contact us at service-at-betamax-dot-com." I came across another complaint website, with numerous complaints referring to this comapny. They gave an email address of [email protected]. I have tried to email at both addresses, but am still waiting for a response.
I have disputed the charges with my bank, and filed a complaint with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. The only problem is I have to wait untill the bank investigates these charges to be reimbursed!
