Mailbox Magazines - CRC Of Tamarac - Community Reading Club Of Tamara - Personal Preiodicals Telemarketing Scam Tells you order can't be cancelled by law it can

I received a call on my cell from Mailbox Magazines telling me I had won a ladies diamond watch, and 3 free magazine subscriptions. The man continued with his pitch, and then told me all I needed to do was subscribe to one of their partners magazines.

I was assured I was getting the lowest available rate for the magazine, and that I would be locked in at this rate and even if the publisher raised the price, I would be protected from that. I choose ESPN, I figured I could get the watch and the free girly magazines, and the manly sports magazine would be for him.

After I talked to the original seller, he put his "supervisor" Donna on the phone. She verified my name address and card number.

Later in the morning I was called back by Katria on a restricted number, and all my information was verified again.

I received a letter from them that Saturday outlining my purchase and saw that the total I was being charged was $35.88 a month for 15 months, which works out to $538.20 for a 3 year subscription.

I called them on the following Monday to cancel my order and was told I could not. I immediatly called my bank to dispute the charges, and the lady told me to call back and demand that they cancel the purchase and not charge my card. She also told me to ask for the names of everyone I had talked to.

I called back and talked to Chastidy, who was the same person I had talked to earlier. I told her I was disputing any charges they would make with my bank and again demanded she cancel my purchase. Once again I was told no. I asked for the names of all the people I had talked to and she told me they didn't keep that information. When I informed her that I had just talked to her 20 minutes earlier and she had furnished me with the names then, she retracted her statement and told me. I was also told they had a recording of me agreeing not to cancel. I didn't remember ever making that statement, so I asked to hear it. Chastidy told me I would have to wait 3 business days because they didn't have it there. She said she would call me when she had it in her possession, over a week later and I still have not heard back from her, nor have I been able to contact them on the number I have.

After I talked to her, I called my dad and he told me to check with my state Attorney Generals office, I filed a complaint with them and then looked around their website. I found that by law I have 3 business days after receiving written confirmation of my purchase to cancel it.

I then wrote a letter to the PO Box address included on the letter, and alternate address I found for them through the Better Business Bureau and also to the Department of Licensing telling them to cancel my order and not charge my account. I sent it certified mail with return receipt.

I have received back the one from the Department, and the one from the alternate address, but not from the PO Box.

My card has already been charged but I am disputing the charges with my bank.in looking online at the cost of ESPN, it is $26 per year through their website, which for 3 years is $447 less then this "company" is charging me. Even the cover rate of $127 a year is less.

I will be calling again tomorrow to see if this so called tape recorded conversation has turned up. I am also going to inform them of the letters I have sent, that is if I can ever get ahold of anyone.

I have since listed all my numbers on the Do Not Call list, and hope this will help me to avoid making this same mistake in the future.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. And when they tell you you cannot cancel, know that they are full of it. Send a letter to them, and your states Department of Licensing, inform them that you want to cancel, and watch the account that you gave them.

Their rating with the BBB is horrible, they do not attempt to resolve complaints, and overall are a shady company.
