I received a phone call from a woman from Freedom Gold, which is a credit line that will allow you up to $5,000 in credit along with $100 in gas vouchers as well as some travel vouchers!
They called me early on a Saturday morning after a late night at work, they asked me if Washington Mutual was still my account and I said yes and they read off my account number to me.
They said there would be a 21 day free trial and that after that I would receive a one time fee taken from my account of $149, I was quick to say DON'T CHARGE MY ACCOUNT for that and she said that I would not be charged because it was a free trial and that the package would be sent free of charge and I would have to activate the card in order to be billed.
After this part of the conversation she said that she was going to record the 2nd part of our conversation for the record... It was very sneaky and when I heard the conversation again I noticed little words such as asking me to REPEAT the account number (that I never gave them)... I
Just stopped talking and I said "I'm sorry I'm half asleep" (I really just wanted to see if she ACTUALLY had my account number, I thought it was odd that they had the correct routing number) and she said that's alright and she read me my account number perfectly to the last number! Mind you I never gave any account number, routing number or bank name even!
When I called them they told me that I had cancelled the service 1 day too late and that is why I was charged. She said that to get refunded all I had to do was send a piece of paper with my name, address and phone number on it and write that I am requesting a refund, she did not tell me how long it would take or anything just that.
Then I asked how they got my account number when I NEVER gave them it and that the lady read ME my account number, and the woman said that I gave it to her and was quickly to play back the part of the conversation they recorded that conveniently played in their favor.
After the tape was played the lady continued to argue with me and said "You even said yourself you were half asleep". I called my bank and filed a forgery claim and the bank told me to open a new account ASAP!
