They told me I had applied online for health insurance (which I did, but it was many months ago and I had since gotten an HMO) and they were offering me a package to look at with very low cost prescriptions and Dr visits, etc. I told them I didn't need insurance. They said it wasn't insurance, it was a "discount package". I said i wasn't interested. They told me that just forlooking at their proposed package in the mail I would get a free $500 shopping spree from a catalog company with no obligation to buy anything or sign up for the catalog company or the healthcare discount program. So I agreed.
Then he asked me for my bank account information. I asked why. He said they need to charge a dollar to it to be sure it exists, much like gas stations do before they let you pump gas, and they would put the dollar right back in. I asked why I needed a bank account and they said the catalog company is a credit card compnay. They have a catalog and their own credit card and you can only buy stuff out of the catalog with their credit card. It helps people rebuild their credit score he said. I told him I wasn't interested. He said I would get the $500 shopping spree but I was under no obligation to get the credit card. He also said when the discount healthcare package arrived I could just throw it away, the same with the catalog, but if I signed up and used the helthcare plan then my checking account would be charged $399.
A month later I am getting BANK NOTICES that I'm overdrawn and bouncing checks. I knew I couldn't possibly be doing that but it was there on the statment. So I called up and got my last 10 transactions and there was $399 missing... Withdrawn by BENEFITS FIRST.
I called the phone number that was on the back of the computer drawn up check that they sached. It was a third party company that only deals with customer service and they couldn't help me.
I filed fraud reports with my bank and I just got the call theat they can't help me because I willingly gave them my checking account number.
I don't have the kind of money to file a civil suit, but if anyone wants to start A CLASS ACTION SUIT, please contact me. Or post here.
