Stupid me, I was contacted and was told that this company was affiliated with a reputable company. The first person that I talked to stated that he was "new" and that the next person I talked to would ask if he was curtious and helpful. He informed me that I could receive magazines at a discounted price of $29.95 for 30 months of a subscription. I wasn't really interested, but thought I would at least hear out what this "new" guy had to say. I inquired if I later changed my mind about the membership, and wanted to cancel at any time, could I? He said in fact I could. So I thought well maybe I would. I mean 30 months of Cosmo for $29.95. Sounded good to me, and if I wanted to cancel I could. Well I know this all sounds to good to be true.
I know in my mind, I should never ever ever give out information regarding, checking accounts, debit accounts, or credit card accounts, and yet for some reason they got the information outta me. Because they assured me that I would not be charged. The account information was only needed to get the magazine order processed and that I would receive a bill.
Well like the "new" guy said, I talked with another person, a lady, and she inquired if in fact the first person I talked to was curtious and helpful, I stated yes, she then went over the same stuff that the first person said, and added that I would receive a piece of jewelry with the order. Gees did I have "gulible" written all over me. She said that I would receive the magazines and within 6 weeks, and the bill would come in the mail with in 5 days.
Well the card info that I gave them was from a secondary account, an account that I keep open because they are nation wide franchise. And since the number was only needed to get the order going, and NOTHING was going to be charged to my card. I used that.
Well, later that week, on friday, the bank called to inform me that I was overdrawn on my account. Hmmm, how could that be, I haven't used this account since x-mas. Well infact CRC had charged my account $39. And $5.00. The phone numbers shown on print out of my account, showed 2 numbers. 8667335100 and 4237335155. I called these numbers and the first one, was a (not sure if I can put names on here) but it was something like Executive Attire, and had never heard of CRC, and the other number was no longer in use.
I don't know how these people did this, I mean I know I should never ever give out account info. Especially if someone calls me, I mean it would have been a little different if I had called them. But they called me and got all that info outta me. I had worried that this kind of thing could happen to my parents, or grandparents, never ever thought it could happen to me.
So in short (lil late for that). People, do not give your account info to anybody. If these people cannot process anything without your credit card number of checking account number, hang up. I am fortunate that this happened on my debit account, they contacted me to let me know that I was overdrawn. If they hadn't called me I wouldn't have known until I got my bank statement.
By the way, I did cancel my card and they are sending me a new card. STAY AWAY FROM CRC!!!
