About two weeks from 11/7/05 my dad filled out an application with Pine Meadows Apartments. He was told that they would give him certain provisions, because he was a senior citizen, but they were not offering any restitution for katrina victims. But, because he needed a place his hands were tied, and he decided to go ahead with the application process anyway. Well, he waited a week, and the manager told him that he would be approved if he would bring a document stating that his bankruptcy was not attached to his mortgage. He got those documents, and waited. He called to find out the status from that, they told him that he would need something from his mortgage company stating how long they were deferring his mortgage.
He got that document, then my dad decided to go to Pine Meadows to talk to them face to face. That's when the manager told him that, because he had a mortgage they could not do anything for him. I can't understand this there are a lot of katrina victims I know of who are owning there homes, and have rental leases in other states. Well I decided to call corporate, I spoke to the assistant of the person in charge, well she told me that whatever the manager at Pine Meadows said that was what it was going to be. She also told me he was denied because he has a mortgage, and that she bet I could not name one apartment complex who had rented to others in the same situation. When I started naming the complexes her reply was " Why can't your dad go and apply somewhere else".
I tried to speak to someone in charge at corporate, but they kept hanging up on me. Then the assistant finally, gave me the cell number of the "president" in charge. I said I didn't know you'd give out the President of a companies number, she said she was allowed, well I called that number, and no one has called me back. I am outraged that a place that supposed to subsidized would be so prejudiced against someone who has lost everything. If has happened to us and one more that I read about I bet it has happened to others, this has to stop, please write about your experiences.
