First of all, I have tried working for 3 months now with the local and corporate offices of Deerwood Apts/Equity Residential and they all refuse to remove the charges (that I don't owe) and even told me to get an attorney if I didn't want to pay them. They are ripping me off and probably doing it to other people also.
Basically, I moved out 3 months ago (from Deerwood) and was promised verbally and in writing that I would only owe $60 for carpet cleaning. Next thing I know, I get a bill in the mail for more than $250 for not just the carpet cleaning, but also for 3 months of water bills that were already paid! I have proof by my checks and THEIR OWN LEDGER SHEETS (locally and in corporate)!! They have added charges with no explanation and have even taken my security deposit (they erased my deposit from thier ledger to hide it - even though it shows it has been paid with a check and on their own books). My move out apartment condition was perfect and no charges other than carpet cleaning should be owed.
Their corporate offices (recently featured on Bloomburg TV for various issues) and local apartment offices have provided me with ledger sheets that show the h2o bills have all been paid, and I have the checks to prove it also. They refuse to back down and are trying to muscle me into paying this or "get an attorney" - that's what they told me to do.
Please please please at least contact me about this. It is not the money that matters as much as the fact that they are trying to steal from me and are likely doing it to many many other people in Rancho Bernardo as well.
There's much more to the story that would seem unbelievable, mostly related to drug and alcohol use and abuse by the local apartment staff and shockingly screwed up bookkeeping. There is serious deception and fraud being committed by these people, in my opinion. Not even the so called professionals in the corporate offices could agree that thier own books show that I do not owe them any money. It's a blatant lie and they know it.
