After completing an online survey, Bizrate offered me "1-year paid subscriptions" to any 4 magazines on their available list. This was not my first time accepting this offer so I felt comfortable knowing that all went smoothly the first time. I chose my magazines and paid the $2 fee per mag by debit card.
I then got a special offer to receive 6 free issues of People Magazine. If I was pleased with the magazine after the 6th issue, I could subscribe for $114. I thought that was a very high price but knew that I would not subscribe but thought I would take the 6 free issues since I had completed all the requirements needed to qualify.
Low and behold, 3 days later my account was $72.50 in the negative and I was told by my bank that instead of Newsub Magazine Services running the transaction like any other company, they went straight to Mastercard and had the transaction forced through even though I did not have $114 in my account to cover the charge.
I have contacted Mastercard, my bank, People Magazine and Newsub Magazine Services to get this resolved and get my money back!!!
