Mr. Bradford sold us a "Sound" & "Registered" Quarter horse in Sept on more then one occasion he offered to buy the horse back if we ever decided to sell. We had a vet come out to give the horse his vaccinations and he told us the horse has Ringbone which will eventually cripple it.
Mr. Bradford happened to call to sell us another horse and I told him what the vet had said he disagreed with the vet's prognosis of Ringbone. He told me that Ringbone in a hind foot will only make it limp not lame. This led me to believe he knew about it when he sold us the horse. We were very saddened and ended up just not riding the horse. We called to return the horse to Mr. Bradford and he agreed to buy the horse back. This was March.
We paid Mr. Bradford $1800 for the horse, $1700 cash and a saddle for the other $100. We resold the horse for $1600. He picked up the horse in early March and agreed pay us "In Full" by May 1st.
On April 2 he gave us $1000 he said that he had sold the horse at auction but that the papers for the horse were no good because he didn't have the transfer paperwork to go with the registration and was wondering if we had them. We told him no that he had not given them to us as well... We just didn't realize the horse was not registered without them. He said he might have to end up buying the horse back from us himself because he was having a hard time selling him and said he would have the other $600 in a few weeks.
On May 10, five weeks later, when we had not heard from him we stopped by his house, he said he had sold the horse and the buyer was going to bring him the balance on May 14th. He told us that he was having a problem getting all the money from the man because someone the gentleman knows told him the horse was lame. Apparently he had not told the new buyer about the ringbone.
On May 15th we stopped by his house and he would not come to the door to talk to us. We left our phone number with his children and asked that he call us but he never called. On May 17th we went by his house again and he told us that the guy never showed up to give the rest of the money.
We asked him why he had not paid us our money when he sold him and he said he that the $1000 he brought by in April was the same money... This was a different story than what he had told us in April. He claimed in April that it was transfer paperwork problems and now he was claiming that they man was saying the horse was lame.
We were irritated that he seemed to be blowing us off for the rest of the $600 he owed us and when we put some pressure on him to ask when he would be going to get the money he got very indignant and told us he was doing us a favor. We told him that we felt like he was blowing us off and that we were running out of patience... He pretty much told us to sue him for the balance. Its June 19 and we still have no money.
He claims when selling to you that he is an "honest" christian man, but an honest Christian man does not steal $600 from you.
