Scammers on Roommates.com are using QChex to issue Bad Checks Ripoff

I signed up on Roommates.com to find a roommate. I received an email from a scammer claiming to be a "young, British nurse who is presently in South Africa, but looking to move to the states to settle down." So we emailed back and fourth for a while. Her English seemed to be very poor to be British.

So finally she told me that she would have a check issued to me and that it would be for over the amount and to wire the remainder to her travelling agent. Well a couple of weeks passed and no check. I did however start receiving phone calls from her "travelling agent." She sent me the address where I was to wire/mail the remainder of the money. It was in Indonesia.

So I finally received the check on April 9th, and it was for $2,800, and I was only asking $500 for the room. Well there was a notice at the top that said "Please visit qchex.com and read the Security (Fraud Prevention Tips) and Terms of Use.

So I tried the Qchex website and it wouldn't load. So then I searched Google for Qchex and found this site. Thanks to the rip off reports I read, I didn't get myself into any real trouble. I do want to caution any roommates.com users of this scam; since the first scammer I've been approached by two other "potential roommates" that have the same story of being out of their country on work and needing the money to be wired. Watch out my friends!
